Their own player ratings

Funny player-rating ideas for a personalised football birthday card

You don’t need to know the offside rule to make their card personal. Start with a habit you recognise, give it a playful rating, and keep the teasing on their side.

Personalised football birthday card example for Dave, age 42, with a VAR joke

Start with a joke only they would recognise

Maybe they can reach the biscuit tin faster than the front door. Perhaps they have plenty to say about defending, right up until it’s their turn. That little detail makes a player-rating card feel like it’s about them, rather than just about football.

The cover image above is a personalised football design example, not a preview of the ratings layout. For editable numbers, choose the football player-ratings option in the card builder.

What you can change: football player ratings use six fixed stat names: Pace, Shooting, Passing, Dribbling, Defending and Physical. You can edit each number from 1 to 100. You can’t rename those stats to “Snack skills”, but you can put that joke in your inside message.

Six funny ratings, with a reason for each

These are made-up birthday ratings, not serious judgments of anyone’s ability. Use the numbers as a starting point, then write your favourite explanation inside.

  • Pace: 99. “First to the door when the takeaway arrives.”
  • Shooting: 92. “Nearly always gets the wrapper in the bin.”
  • Passing: 35. “Still won’t pass the crisps.”
  • Dribbling: 88. “Excellent control. Mostly of the remote.”
  • Defending: 41. “Questionable at the back. Unbeatable at defending the last slice.”
  • Physical: 95. “Carries the whole week’s shopping in one trip.”

If the birthday person takes their football seriously, a glowing set of ratings can be funnier than six low scores. Give them one gently ridiculous weakness and make the rest a celebration.

Three ready-to-use player profiles

The match-day snack captain

Pace 99, Shooting 86, Passing 35, Dribbling 88, Defending 94, Physical 90. The story: quick to collect the food, very protective of it, less keen to share.

Inside message: “Happy birthday, Sam! Pace: 99 when the food arrives. Sharing the last slice: still under review. Our snack captain and player of the year.”

Your favourite teammate

Pace 88, Shooting 91, Passing 99, Dribbling 90, Defending 95, Physical 92. Keep this one warm rather than roast-heavy: the joke is that they’re your first pick every time.

Inside message: “Happy birthday to my favourite teammate. Kindness: 100. Making me laugh: 100. Sharing the duvet: negotiations continue. Love you!”

The armchair manager

Pace 55, Shooting 96, Passing 93, Dribbling 90, Defending 42, Physical 78. Perfect for someone who enjoys offering very confident advice from the sofa.

Inside message: “Tactical advice: 99. Accepting the referee’s decision: 12. Making match day more fun: 100. Happy birthday to our favourite armchair manager!”

Keep the roast friendly

Tease a shared habit, not something they’re self-conscious about. Snack preferences, enthusiastic commentary and remote-control ownership are easier territory than appearance, fitness or a genuinely disappointing match.

For a child, a proud parent’s “player of the year” message may work better than low ratings. For a partner, finish with something affectionate. For a colleague you don’t know well, choose a straightforward football birthday message instead of a personal roast.

Put the numbers on the front and the story inside

  1. Open the football player-ratings design, then add their name and optional birthday age.
  2. Set the six ratings. Choose a position if you know their favourite; keep the joke focused on the numbers if you don’t.
  3. Write one short explanation inside. The extra joke ratings above are message wording, not additional stat fields.
  4. Review both sides of the proof. Check the name, age, numbers and spelling before adding it to your basket.
