How to create a personalised gaming birthday card

Their name on the front. Your words inside. A few thoughtful details make a birthday card feel properly theirs. Here’s what to choose and what to check before you order.

First, choose how much you want to personalise

There are two ways to make a Gamerly card feel like yours. On a ready-designed card, you can add a printed message inside or leave it blank to write by hand. To change the front as well, use the personalised card builder.

The football card pictured above is an example of a personalised design, not a customer photo. It shows how a name and birthday age can become part of the artwork.

1. Choose their game and card

Start at personalised gaming birthday cards and open the builder. In “Game & card”, choose a theme and design that suits them. If football is their thing, our personalised football cards are a useful starting point.

You don’t need to pick the most complicated design. Think about the colours, the humour and whether you can imagine the recipient keeping it on display. Personalisation options vary by design, so choose the front you like before planning every detail.

2. Make it theirs

Move to “Personalise” to add their name and, if you want to, their birthday age. Use the name they actually go by. A familiar nickname can be lovely, but check that it still reads clearly on the card.

Depending on the design, you may see other details to customise, such as player-style ratings. Keep any joke friendly and easy to understand. You don’t have to fill a design with in-jokes for it to feel thoughtful.

3. Add the finishing touches

Use “Finishing touches” to adjust the available lettering and message options. Look at the whole card as you make changes: a short line with room around it is often easier to read than a long message squeezed onto the front.

Add an inside message if you’d like it printed, or leave the inside blank for handwriting. A greeting, one personal thought and a sign-off are enough. Our gaming birthday message ideas can help you get started, but change the wording so it sounds like you.

4. Review the card before adding it to your basket

Choose “Review card” and look at both the front and the inside preview. This is the point to catch the small things that are easy to miss while you’re designing.

  • Is their name spelt correctly, including any nickname?
  • Is the age right for this birthday, if you’ve included it?
  • Does all the text fit and read clearly?
  • Have you included your name in the inside message, or intentionally left it blank?
  • Are you happy with the front and inside as a pair?

Confirm that you’ve checked the name, spelling, front and inside when you’re happy with the proof, then add the card to your basket. If you edit the design afterwards, review it again. Printed colours can look a little different from a screen.

5. Check the order details

Review your basket, delivery address and total before paying. Check our delivery information against the birthday date; a personalised card still needs time to be printed and delivered. You don’t need an account to buy.
